First Impressions: MAZ Saber’s Custom Lightsabers

If you know me, you know I love lightsabers. So when I saw an ad for MAZ Saber and their custom hilts, I had to check them out. I reached out, and they sent me two lightsaber hilts and two blades to review – a premium saber and a freebie included as part of their current deal.

What’s Included?

As of this recording, MAZ Saber offers a bundle deal for $209, where you get:

  • Two lightsaber hilts and blades
  • 11 LED blade colors
  • The ability to connect two sabers into a double-bladed saber (without needing a coupler!)
  • Flash-on-clash effects
  • Six sound fonts & a silent mode
  • Strong blade for heavy dueling (likely polycarbonate material)
  • One-year warranty & 30-day money-back guarantee
  • Two meals donated to Feeding America with each order

They also sell character-inspired hilts (based on Star Wars characters) on their website. I’m not sure how they manage to name them directly after Star Wars characters without running into legal trouble, but it seems like they’re flying under the radar for now.

Unboxing the Lightsabers

Premium Saber

Upon opening the box, I found a heat adhesive wrap, a charging cable, a manual, and some hardware and thumb screws for securing the blade.

The premium saber feels solid and well-built, made of aluminum with nice weight to it. The hilt design features milled aluminum parts that appear to be interchangeable, allowing for customization.

The hilt unscrews to reveal a removable 3000mAh battery, a speaker at the bottom, and a visible circuit board. While the design looks sleek overall, I’m not a huge fan of the visible two-pin port on the hilt, as it disrupts the otherwise clean design.

Freebie Saber

The second saber, included as a freebie in the deal, is noticeably simpler. It lacks some of the detailed milling of the premium saber but still feels durable and well-crafted. Given that it’s essentially a bonus item, I wasn’t expecting anything too fancy.

Charging & Setup

When first unpacking these sabers, I found the instructions a little confusing. However, after some trial and error, I figured out how to change colors, switch sound effects, and use the different settings.

Charging is straightforward with the included cable, and once fully charged, it was time to test them out in action!

Testing the Sabers

One of the most exciting parts of any lightsaber review is seeing how they perform in low light and dueling situations.

Blade Effects & Sound

The sabers look fantastic in the dark, with bright LED colors and immersive sound effects. The big speaker in the bottom delivers clear, powerful audio.

However, I noticed the flash-on-clash sensitivity on the premium saber isn’t as responsive as I’d like. It doesn’t always register impacts correctly, which is a bit disappointing. That said, the sound effects themselves are great and add to the overall experience.

Durability & Dueling Test

To test durability, we lightly dueled with the sabers. While we didn’t go full-force, we didn’t hold back either. The sabers held up really well, with no noticeable bending or flexing. This is a great sign for those interested in heavy dueling.

Final Thoughts – Is It Worth It?

While the core components of these sabers are manufactured in China, what you’re paying for with MAZ Saber is a US-based brand with quick shipping, solid customer service, and strong reviews.

Pros:

Bright LEDs with 11 color options
Great sound quality
Durable and well-built
Double-bladed connection feature
One-year warranty and money-back guarantee
Two meals donated per purchase

Cons:

Flash-on-clash isn’t as sensitive as I’d like
Hilt design could be slightly cleaner (visible charging port)
Instructions could be clearer

Verdict: A Solid Mid-Tier Lightsaber Option

If you’re looking for a solid, customizable, and budget-friendly lightsaber, MAZ Saber is a great option. It won’t match the highest-end Neopixel sabers, but for casual fans, duelists, or collectors, this is a fantastic value.
