This is our April Fools post from 2026. Enjoy! ๐
You heard that right. To the utter dismay and excitement of the entire world, Disney is going full money-grab mode and rebooting the beloved franchise. It was only a matter of time, right? I mean, I thought for sure they’d wait until George Lucas kicked the bucket before slaughtering his creation.
What’s even more interesting is that this very Kathleen Kennedy-esque move is being made by the new head of Lucasfilm, Dave Filoni. What’s surprising is that Filoni has only been interested in creating new TV shows and films that explore the existing Star Wars universe, staying as close to the original canon as possible without retconning or remaking.
The New Cast of Star Wars
There’s very little we know about the new trilogy as we’re still early in preproduction. What we do know via an internal leak is who will be playing both Luke Skywalker and Han Solo.
Walker Scobell as Luke Skywalker

Walker Scobell, best known for playing the lead in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV show, has the boyish looks needed for a “A New Hope” Luke Skywalker. He also plays “Young Adam” in The Adam Project alongside Ryan Reynolds. While he doesn’t have that many films under his belt, his role as Percy Jackson should be enough of a primer to prepare him for the role of a lifetime.
Glen Powell as Han Solo

Yeah, I known, I know. It’s not great. I will say he is close to the right kind of braggart for the role, however. Powell’s recent films How to Make a Killing and The Running Man were (mostly) flops but he hit the nail on the head with Chad Powers (in the TV show Chad Powers) and Lt. Jake “Hangman” Seresin in Top Gun: Maverick. Both roles fit his personality well. Will the writers give him a reason to take his shirt off? Time will tell.
Scheduled Release

It’s too early to say when Episode 4 (the first of the films) will be released. They’re probably floating dates as we speak. Generally a release like this will come out in the summer or around Christmas with a long theatrical run and then streaming 3-4 months later. Of course in this hybrid era of near-simultaneous streaming it’s possible we’ll get to watch it on the small screen much sooner. Regardless, if I had to guess I’d say Christmas 2028.
