The Little Bike That…Couldn’t? DYU C3 Folding eBike Review

The DYU C3 is a folding e-bike that straddles the line between price and quality. At $329, how good could it be? Let’s find out! Get yours here and get $15 off when you use code DYU-P (affiliate link).

Electric bikes are everywhere these days, offering commuters and casual riders an affordable, eco-friendly way to get around. Today, we’re looking at the DYU C3, a compact folding eBike that’s currently on sale for $329. With a 350W brushless motor, 7.5Ah battery, and a top speed of 15.5 mph, it seems like a budget-friendly option for city dwellers. But does the low price mean low quality? Let’s dive in.

    Unboxing and First Impressions

The DYU C3 arrives mostly assembled, which is a plus for those who aren’t mechanically inclined. In the box, you’ll find:

    • An owner’s manual
    • A charger
    • A multi-tool
    • Pedals

Assembly is minimal, but the multi-tool included is pretty flimsy—I bent the wrench immediately while installing the pedals and had to use my own. The bike also comes equipped with disc brakes (cable, not hydraulic), fenders, a front headlight, a bell, a rear rack, and a brake light. Initially, the build quality looked solid, but how does it ride?

    Performance on the Road

    Flat Terrain

On a paved bike path, the throttle worked decently, getting me up to the advertised 15 mph. Acceleration was a little sluggish, but overall, it handled fine on flat ground.

    Uphill Struggles

Here’s where the problems start. The DYU C3 is rated for 15° inclines, but with its single-speed drivetrain, small wheels, and underpowered motor, climbing even moderate hills was a challenge. At 180 lbs, I had to stand up and pedal to make it up the incline. Using just the throttle? The bike completely stopped. I even double-checked my battery and tire pressure—everything was fine, but the motor just couldn’t handle the load.

After looking at other reviews, I realized I wasn’t alone—other riders experienced the same throttle failures on hills.

    Size and Weight Considerations

At 44 lbs, the C3 is heavier than expected, especially compared to similar models like the Ride1Up Roadster V2, which has a similar motor and battery but weighs 33 lbs. The bike’s small frame and seat height also pose a challenge. At 5’6″, I had the seat post fully extended, meaning riders over 5’8″ will likely find it uncomfortable. The rear rack is also too small for standard panniers.

    Who Is This Bike For?

While the DYU C3 has some clear limitations, it could work well for certain users. If you:

    ✅ Weigh under 150 lbs
✅ Live in a flat area (think coastal Florida, not San Francisco)
✅ Need an ultra-portable eBike for short commutes
✅ Want a bike that fits in a closet or the trunk of a car

…it might be a solid option.

    What Needs Improvement?

DYU could make this bike significantly better with:

    • A larger battery for more power
    • A lighter frame to improve handling
    • A stronger motor to tackle inclines

Yes, these changes would raise the price, but at some point, ultra-budget compromises limit the bike’s usability.

    Final Verdict

For $329, the DYU C3 is a tempting deal, but only if you meet the ideal rider profile. If you weigh over 165 lbs or live in a hilly area, this bike will likely disappoint you. However, for lightweight riders in flat cities, it could serve as a convenient last-mile solution.

Would I recommend it? Not for most people. But if you’re still curious, check it out here and get $15 off with code DYU-P (affiliate link).

Thanks for reading, and happy riding!
