Studio Ghibli’s timeless masterpiece, Princess Mononoke, has returned to theaters in a stunning 4K restoration, exclusively in IMAX. This limited engagement, which began on March 26, 2025, celebrates the 40th anniversary of Studio Ghibli and offers fans a rare opportunity to experience Hayao Miyazaki’s epic fantasy on the grandest of screens.

The IMAX presentation showcases the film’s breathtaking animation and intricate details with unprecedented clarity. Atsushi Okui, a longtime collaborator with Studio Ghibli, oversaw the 4K restoration, ensuring that every frame reflects the director’s original vision.

The re-release has been met with overwhelming enthusiasm. In its opening weekend, Princess Mononoke grossed $3.5 million across 330 IMAX screens in the U.S. and Canada, achieving a remarkable per-theater average of over $10,600. This performance surpassed its original 1999 domestic run, highlighting the film’s enduring appeal.

Fans have expressed their excitement about the IMAX experience. One viewer shared, “Saw this classic on IMAX last night. If movie theaters want to put asses in seats, the formula is right here.”

Screenings are available in both the original Japanese with English subtitles and an English-dubbed version. Given the limited run, it’s advisable to secure tickets promptly. For theater locations and showtimes, visit the official IMAX website.

Don’t miss this chance to immerse yourself in the world of Princess Mononoke on the expansive IMAX canvas. Whether you’re a longtime admirer or new to this cinematic gem, the 4K restoration offers a fresh and exhilarating viewing experience.
