Tech-savvy travelers (myself included) have long leaned on Bose for unbeatable comfort and perfectly tuned EQ and the 2025 Bose QuietComfort Ultra Over-Ear Headphones double down on that promise. With super soft “protein leather” (artificial leather) cushions and deep ear cups, it’s like a gentle hug around your ears. These truly are built for marathon listening, exactly what you want on a 12-hour flight.
Comfort-wise, Bose’s focus shows. Wide, angled earcups and thick memory-foam pads seal out noise without digging in, and the headband’s extra cushion eases any top-of-head pressure. They’re easily the most comfortable headphones I’ve ever word and even take first place in our best of 2025 headphone list. Another amazing feat of these headphones is just how small they are without sacrificing features or comfort. They fit into a compact carry case that easily fits in your carry-on or personal item. In short, Bose engineered these for extended use: from the coziest protein-leather cushions to the gentle clamp around your head, everything is tuned so you almost forget you’re wearing them. (And if you do need fresh pads, the earpads are removable and replaceable to extend longevity.)
Whisper-Quiet Focus with Class-Leading ANC

Bose didn’t just stop at comfort. These headphones pack world-class noise cancellation. There are eight microphones feeding both feedback and feed-forward algorithms, a comprehensive system that dramatically cuts the ambient drone plane engines. In practice this means you can slip into near silence at 30,000 feet (which honestly can be pretty eerie). Bose’s “Quiet Mode” delivers maximum cancellation when you need it (on a takeoff or in a loud cafe), while an “Aware Mode” lets in just enough sound to stay safe on the sidewalk. There’s even an “Immersion” (Still and Motion) mode that layers spatial audio on top of ANC. On windy travel days, a handy “Wind Block” toggles to mute the mic for clear calls despite gusts. In short, the QC Ultras give you impressive control over your soundscape no matter where you are.
Sound That’s Rich and Tuned to You

Don’t mistake the plush comfort for mushy sound. The QC Ultras deliver clear, balanced audio with enough punch for travel listening. Bose uses its proprietary CustomTune EQ to automatically personalize the sound to your ears as soon as you put them on. Overall the QC Ultra has slightly boosted bass and very natural mids/highs compared to, say, Apple’s AirPods Max. In real-world listening, the result is “lifelike” music that’s full and detailed. You can tweak things too – the Bose Music app offers a simple 3-band EQ and presets (Bass Boost, Treble Reducer, etc.) if you want to dial it in further. For a movie or immersive track, Bose’s “Immersive Audio” can even place your tunes in 3D space. As Bose describes it, what you hear is “placed just in front of you, so it’s like you’re listening without wearing headphones”. It’s fun for select content and helps these cans feel more versatile. And for audiophile travelers, the Ultra Headphones support Qualcomm aptX Lossless (over Bluetooth) – meaning compatible Android phones can stream full CD-quality audio to your ears. For in-flight listening, you can either us the 2.5mm to 3.5mm analog input cable (included), or purchase a 3.5mm bluetooth adapter. Either way you’ll still be able to use Bose’s active EQ and ANC.

Marathon Battery & Quick Charging
None of this matters if the headphones die mid-journey – thankfully Bose delivers big here too. The QC Ultras run up to 24 hours on a charge with ANC on (Quiet or Aware mode). They also charge fast: a 15-minute boost gets you roughly 3 hours of listening, perfect for layovers. In practice the battery life is solid for everyday use, though Sony’s latest XM6 (around 30 hours with ANC) still leads the pack. Even so, 24-plus hours is quite competitive: in airport lounges, busses or overnight trains, these cans won’t quit on you – a must for travelers who live by their gear.
Smart, Connected, and Ready to Go
The QuietComfort Ultra headphones are loaded with tech to fit modern travel. They use Bluetooth 5.3 with Bluetooth multipoint, so you can pair with your laptop and phone at the same time and switch seamlessly between a video call and streaming music. Because Bose supports Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Sound, the Ultra cans also accept the new aptX Lossless codec – enabling true lossless (CD-quality) audio from newer Android devices.
In short, the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Over-Ear Headphones put comfort and convenience first, without skimping on cutting-edge audio tech. They deliver world-class ANC and immersive sound quality along with up-to-date features like multipoint Bluetooth and support for lossless streaming. It’s a killer combo for travelers: you get Bose’s signature “silence on demand,” all-day battery, and an ear-friendly fit that other high-end models only aspire to match. These are my go-to for every flight.
