Harry Potter fans, grab your wands and take a seat—because Draco Malfoy is back. No, not in that long-rumored HBO reboot (which is still deep in the “early days of sorting hats and casting calls”), but in something that feels just as magical: Broadway.

Yep, Tom Felton is officially reprising his role as everyone’s favorite Slytherin bad boy in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Only this time, he’s older, wiser, and sporting a serious case of wizard-dad energy.

A Stage Return 16 Years in the Making

Felton announced the news during an appearance on the Today show, calling it “a pinch-me situation.” And honestly, same. “I let go of that character 16 years ago, and now I get to step back into his shoes, as a father this time, in a new story,” he said.

The play—set 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts—follows the next generation of magical mischief-makers. That’s right: HarryRonHermione, and Draco are now the ones sending their kids off to school at Hogwarts. Welcome to the wizarding midlife crisis.

Tom Felton is returning as Draco Malfoy in ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ on Broadway. He will reprise his film role for a 19 week engagement starting November 11th.

Felton Joins the Broadway Production This Fall

Felton will join the New York cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Lyric Theatre starting November 11, 2025, for a 19-week run through March 22, 2026. This marks Felton’s official Broadway debut—and he’ll be the first original film cast member to step into the stage version of the Potterverse.

The moment he put on Draco’s signature blond wig again? Tears. “It was just sort of like a blast from the past. … It was something that I never thought I’d see again,” Felton said.

The Cursed Child, Revived and Recharged

For those unfamiliar, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the most successful non-musical play in Broadway history—grossing over 10 million tickets globally since its 2016 London premiere. With current productions in London, New York, Hamburg, and Tokyo, it’s officially the fourth longest-running Broadway play ever.

Despite the familiar name, the story stands apart from the films. “It’s such an independent story from the ‘Potter’ films that I grew up with,” Felton said. “Now we’re no longer children. We actually are the parents. … So as much as it is reprising an old role, it’s very much treading into new, unfamiliar territory.”

Fans Are Absolutely Losing It

When the news hit Instagram, the internet predictably imploded. One user wrote, “The entire millennial generation of Harry Potter fans is currently losing their minds. This is AMAZING!” Another said simply: “OG Draco has Returned.” And honestly, they’re not wrong. This is a full-circle moment for an entire generation raised on broomsticks and Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans.

Nostalgia With New Spells Ahead

Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender said it best: “Tom’s return to Hogwarts bridges generations of fans and breathes new life into a beloved story.” It’s a move loaded with nostalgia, emotion, and just enough magic to make your Patronus sparkle.

Tickets for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child with Tom Felton go on presale June 10 at 11 a.m. ET, with the public sale opening June 12 at 11 a.m. ET. So if you’ve ever dreamed of seeing a Malfoy redeem himself live on stage—now’s your chance.

And In the Background… the Reboot Looms

Meanwhile, HBO is still hard at work developing that long-form Harry Potter TV adaptation, with Dominic McLaughlinArabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout cast as the new Harry, Hermione, and Ron. But until that hits our screens, Tom Felton’s live return to the wizarding world is the next big thing—and this time, it’s happening in real-time, on stage, in New York City.
