The Steam store sits at the heart of PC gaming—if you’re on a PC, you’re almost certainly using Valve’s client to purchase and play your titles. While the current interface works well, there’s always room for enhancement, and Valve is rolling out one of Steam’s most significant refreshes in years. This update introduces fresh browsing and search tools designed to help you discover your next favorite game, and it’s available now in a public beta.
Valve explains, “Just as the Steam store has changed with the addition of new features in the past few years, the ways users browse the store have changed too. Today’s Steam Client beta features a new store menu that is designed to provide easier access to the places Steam users most frequently visit.” To ensure these improvements hit the mark, Valve is inviting users to join the beta and share their feedback on these updates.

The familiar top-level blue bar and left-hand navigation pane have been replaced by a single, streamlined menu along the top of the window. Valve notes that the previous layout caused “a lot of doubling up, making it hard to anticipate where to find what you needed.” The new bar is designed to “stay out of your way,” reappearing only when you scroll upward so you can quickly jump back to key areas.
Search has received a comprehensive overhaul, too. You’ll now see trending searches at a glance, a ‘recently viewed’ section for quick access to games you’ve looked at before, and enhanced filters for categories, tags, publishers, and more. Advanced search options are easier to reach, letting you drill down with precision.
For those days when you want to browse rather than search, the redesigned Browse tab offers filters for popularity, release date, price, and active discounts. All recommendation types—similar games, community picks, and curator highlights—are now bundled into a single section, making it simpler to find titles tailored to your tastes.
The personalized Categories tab puts your most-played genres, themes, and tags front and center. “With these changes, we’re aiming to make your experience smoother and more tailored to your needs,” Valve says.
“We’ve been hearing from players, and experiencing ourselves, that some of the most commonly visited areas of Steam were hard to get to. Whether you’re a frequent shopper or looking to build your game library, this new layout is designed to get you where you want to go with less effort.”
If you’re eager to try out the new design, it’s available now in the Steam Client Beta. You can find detailed instructions on opting in by opening Steam’s settings, navigating to the “Beta Participation” section, and selecting the latest client update.
