Less than a week after its release, Hollow Knight: Silksong, which shot to the top of the charts on Steam with over 45,000 positive English reviews, has come crashing back down. This comes just over 8 years after Team Cherry’s massive success with the first Hollow Knight game and the promise of a sequel. And while Silksong has dominated charts (and is still #1 on the Steam Deck charts), there’s one game that’s stealing Team Cherry’s thunder… well, technically 3 depending on how you look at it
In top sellers at number three, Helldivers 2 ($39.99), which was also a massively hyped game (and rightly so) has surpassed Silksong. At number two there’s Counter-Strike 2 (free to play) and at number one we have one of the most anticipated AAA games of the year.

Borderlands 4 is Coming
Yep. Borderlands 4, the mayhem-fueled looter shooter, jam-packed with billions of weapons, deadly enemies, and intense co-op action. The goal of which is to break free from a dangerous hidden planet as one of four new badass Vault Hunters. It releases in just a few days (September 11) and preorders are surging.
What about most played?
If we take a look at the top 100 most played, we get a slightly different story. Current peak players:
- Counter-Strike 2 (1,396,898)
- Dota 2 (811,838)
- Hollow Knight: Silksong (443,328)
As you can see, while the numbers are still strong, they’re no where near what they were at launch to achieve number one. Some of this is probably due to hype buying and players figuring out that they don’t actually like this style of game after all.
Still, Hollow Knight fails to achieve supremacy against free-to-play, online multiplayer juggernauts. Where they are still ranking no. 1 is the top played charts for Steam Deck. Not only is Silksong number one, the original Hollow Knight which launched way back in 2017 is number 2. The original Hollow Knight, it should be noted, is still priced at $14.99 despite how old it is.
