Facebook on desktop seems to be running, though page load times are sluggish. Mobile is also running slow and some features like stories seem to be offline. Instagram appears to be fully functional on mobile and desktop.
At around 10:00 am EST, Facebook disappeared from the internet. Sort of.
User trying to access the social media site were immediately logged out, told their sessions “expired” and were met with various errors including “check your internet connection” and in my case, “Error. Query Error.” Not a great sign.
Unlike other parts of the web that rely on Cloudflare, a global cloud platform that acts as the internet’s security guard and delivery network, Facebook operates it’s own delivery network, so thankfully other corners of the internet aren’t affected. However, we noticed Instagram, a Facebook property, is also down or at the very least acting a big sluggish. Other reports said all Meta services were down or experiencing significant issues.
Ironically, the service Downdetector‘s page on Facebook is experience an outage of its own, possibly due to the influx of traffic from concerned users. Fortunately there are plenty of other services including NordVPN that can show us the status.
