Ketchup Entertainment to the Rescue: Coyote vs. Acme Finds a Buyer

In one of the strangest Hollywood sagas in recent memory, Coyote vs. Acme—the completed, high-concept live-action/animated hybrid film starring John Cena and everyone’s favorite unlucky desert predator—has finally found a home. And no, it’s not a streaming giant like Netflix or Max. It’s Ketchup Entertainment—yes, you read that right.

    From Shelved to Saved

Originally a Warner Bros. project, Coyote vs. Acme was shelved in 2023 as part of the studio’s head-scratching strategy of writing off completed films for tax breaks. This tactic already torpedoed projects like Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt. Fans, critics, and industry insiders alike were left stunned. Coyote vs. Acme, reportedly a crowd-pleaser in test screenings, had been effectively buried—until now.

Enter Ketchup Entertainment, the independent distributor known for punching above its weight. With a name more fitting for a condiment startup than a film distributor, Ketchup just pulled a fast one on the industry, scooping up a completed, star-studded film that’s been sitting on the shelf gathering dust and internet sympathy.

What’s the Deal with the Movie?

Coyote vs. Acme blends live-action and animation, in the spirit of Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Space Jam. It stars John Cena as a lawyer opposing Wile E. Coyote in a court case after the Looney Tunes icon sues the Acme Corporation for all the trauma caused by their dangerously defective gadgets. The premise? Brilliant. The execution? Supposedly, just as good.

Directed by Dave Green (Earth to Echo, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows), and written by a team that includes The Lego Batman Movie’s Chris McKay and The Office’s Samy Burch, the film mixes slapstick mayhem, legal satire, and nostalgic love for the Looney Tunes legacy.

And let’s be honest—seeing John Cena go head-to-head with a cartoon coyote in court? That’s box office gold waiting to happen.

    Why Ketchup, Though?

Ketchup Entertainment isn’t a household name, but it might become one after this. The company has handled smaller releases in the past, but this acquisition could be a breakout moment. By rescuing Coyote vs. Acme, Ketchup positions itself as a scrappy underdog (much like Wile E. himself), willing to champion fan-favorite content that the bigger studios discard.

The decision also signals to the industry that mid-budget, family-friendly fare with strong creative voices and IP recognition still has value outside of tax write-offs. Crazy, right?

    What’s Next?

Ketchup Entertainment reportedly plans to release Coyote vs. Acme theatrically, though dates and marketing plans are still under wraps. Regardless of how it rolls out, the simple fact that the film will finally see the light of day is enough to spark celebration among animation fans, Looney Tunes lovers, and those who just like rooting for the little guy—both in court and in Hollywood.

After all, Wile E. Coyote may never catch the Road Runner, but thanks to Ketchup Entertainment, he just scored his biggest win yet.
